La Carrade is an ancient Provençal farmhouse set in its own extensive grounds. Ideally placed, just 1km from the sea, One of the last remaining substantial properties on the Côte d’Azur. The 400 m2 villa is set in more than 35 hectares of typical Mediterranean ‘maquis’ woodland, among parasol pines, cypresses, cork and green oaks, and briar. In 1962, the house was completely transformed by architect Francois Spoerry into a modern villa, with his particular sympathy for preserving its ambiance and original charm, a vernacular he later used when building Port Grimaud, the Provençal ‘Venice’, nearby. The main part of the house has kept all its charm. It has unusually thick walls which guarantee cool in summer, warm in winter. The wild nature of this property, the status of which has been recently confirmed as” Green Belt”, allows for walks to the crest of the hills with outstanding views of the sea. There are numerous terraces and pergolas all around the house, offering charming spots, sunny or shady for meals outside or relaxing moments.There is a secluded sunbathing terrace which can be reached by the ancient staircase at the front of the house or from the first floor , off season this can be a wonderfully warm spot sheltered from winds.There is a large, ‘serpantine’ marble, dining table under the pergola just outside the main dining room, it seats 18. This is where you can enjoy an outdoor barbecue. Subject to strict law in South of France regarding forest fires, it is, sadly, impossible to enjoy the barbecue at the Pool or other parts of the garden. The private swimming pool, 7m x 16 m and its large shady pool house, are about 40m from the house, there are lounge beds and a table with parasol and chairs for a picnic in a totally natural setting. There is a fridge and a kettle provided in the pool house for light snacks. The shady pool house shelters a ping-pong table. As you approach the villa, the drive ends in front of two garages and ample parking space around . The housekeepers house is at the entrance of the property on your right, completely separate from the main villa. You are only 20km from St Tropez and there are many places to see in the back-country too. Just minutes away, aside from the many beaches, you can explore local hill villages and their markets, visit Gassin golf course, or the new luxury Spa at Ramatuelle. And then opportunities abound to sample the wines in some of the most celebrated vineyards on the Côtes de Provence. |
